I bought the car with this mod. Should I keep or get rid of it? Now that the fan shroud is cut, any recommendations on what I can get to replace it with?
Will I be able to remove the air filter from underneath to clean it or do I have to take it apart??
Air filter is removed from underneath to clean, no need to take apart. I had one on mine but removed it because I was afraid of hydrolock with all the rain in Florida. It's easy to replace the cut shroud. A new one is only about $50 bucks. I went back to stock but lots of choices out there. If I was getting something different I would get a Blackwing. No cutting and easy to install. HTH
Mike, unless you are looking for something better, because you drag race alot the Vortex is an excellent unit. I removed Lance's (above) as he was afraid of the standing water down here. Just don't drive into standing water (approx 8" deep) and you will be fine. Bob
The Vortex Ram Air was the first mod I made on my '03' and the immediate power increase was awsome. I don't drive my car in the rain. But I've installed a screen on the underside unless I do get caught out in it which will somewhat help diffuse minor splashes. I would leave it if I were you.
The Vortex does give you added performance. However it is a bottom breather. Bottom breathers are more prone to cause hydro lock than most other CAIs.
IMO if you don't drive your car in the rain leave the Vortex in place. If your car is a daily driver that you drive in all types of weather. I would get a non CAI intake like the Blackwing. You will still get very good performance and much more piece of mind.
As I stated above RAIN WILL DO NOTHING!!! I drove in South Florida, daily for 3 years with the Vortex box. STANDING WATER is the only problem for any system not rain.

My Vortex has been on for 5 years, and 3 of those years it was my daily driver when I lived in Cincinnati. Torrential Rain, Snow, Sleet, and Hail...been through it all with the Vortex. Great power gains too!

I heard you hydrolocked last year from rain associated with hurricane Charlie. I kept warning you about that Vararam.
I have a Vortex on my daily driver for over 2 years and I've driven it in very heavy rain on trips back and forth to school 150 miles round trip for the last year with no problems at all.
