I have recently completed several mods - Blackwing with airbridge, Corsa Touring exhaust and Kooks LTs. The headers currently connect to the stock cats but I have BPP X-pipe welded in in front of the H-pipe connection.
I was just told that the car's computer is not capable of fully adjusting the fuel/air mix for the mods - especially the headers and if I don't get a tune I could burn up the motor.
Is this correct? I plan to do a tune but not tomorrow! Was waiting until all future mods are complete. High Flow Cats are next.
You are fine the way you are. The tune will OPTIMIZE your mods However many, myself included cannot afford to run and have the car tuned until a few mods are done. The mods you listed are simple bolt-ons and will not result in your motor burning up. Obviously with the headers (you are now running up the rpm's quicker) you want to listen to the motor and make sure you don't hear any pinging (detonation, like bad gas) sound coming from the engine. Your car will learn the new mods and will be fine.
To get the best performance out of your mods, you should get a good tune later on.
I have Kooks 1 3/4 w/cats, GHL cat back and a trap on an 02 Z06. I recently hooked up HPTuners/wideband and found I was rich at WOT. 11.0-11.2:1 from 4k on up. So for me, a tune is very necessary. My car is no faster than a stock Zwithout a tune. Some people are more fortunate though.
