I'm pretty forceful with my shifts most of the time, and a friend who works on my car recommended that I get a Hurst b/c it has shift stops, and supposedly the stocker does not.
Problem is, after driving s friend's car with the Hurst I hated it. I did like the firm feeling slamming into a gear, but really hated going 3 -> 2, or really any shift that wasn't from 3 to 4 or back. Too much effort for me, and I want a little more throw.
I loved the C6 unit at the Chicago auto show. Does anyone know if it or another aftermarket unit has stops built into it?
I just cutdown the stock one, I hated the 3ft long stock one. Internal stops should be plenty strong enough. A few people have put a C6 shifter on the C5, search it

The Corvette transmission has internal stops. The stock shifter does not (obviously).
Becareful on the shifter stops built into the aftermarket shifter assemblies. If they are not set properly you can do more harm than good. Especially, if the stop on the shifter does not allow for you to engage a gear and then you release the clutch. say bye-bye to the gear/syncro within the transmission.
FYI... The only other shifter (other than the Hurst) that I know that has external stops build into the shifter is the Kirban.
I know the Hurst has the stops but they aren't needed as the MN6 and M12 have internal stops.
As far as the Hurst being too stiff, they loosen up with use and what springs did he install?
Tom
I'd rather beat a shifter stop than a tranny stop. As for the adjustment, i hit mine if i pound gears, but just sitting there the shift post doesn't touch the stop.
It was pretty stiff at first, but loosened up after a while and is perfect now. I was going to change springs, but now i'm glad i didn't.
I am installing an aftermarket shifter on my TREMEC. Do you have any suggestions?
The major problem with aftermarket shifters is that they have stops on them. To install them correctly, you will have to remove the stops completely. Our transmissions are built with internal stops.

I would still becareful. As long as the stop is far enough behind the shift lever with some effort applied to it. You don't want the shifter assembly stop to inhibit the shift lever movement while you are shifting.
