Have an 04 with about 6kmiles; have noticed an occasional groan/grind when turn hard left, like in a parking garage. Notice is mostly at start up, and only on hard left, with quick wheel turn. Not really driving around.
Anyone with any experience? Could it just be a cold power steering pump? I haven't had an issue with a power steering pump for years. I have stock set up on tires, etc., so wouldn't think anything is rubbing under there.
When I had my 98 I had a groan in the front and it turned out to be a wheel bearing. Drive down the road turn the steering wheel from right to left aound 30 mph like your warming up the tires when they race at indy if you here the groan then its most likely a wheel bearing.
how far is it turned? i.e. lock to lock? At the limit the pump may groan normally.
have you checked the amount of fluid? Make sure it's filled appropriately.
If it's full, and only close to lock when it groans I personally wouldn't sweat it. Now if you start feeling some bizarre feedback in turns (like the power is cutting out) then I'd say pump.
