I have finally made the decision to mod my car, it is a 99 Torch Red Conv LS1 stock. The trucks on starting to be on their way! Since my car is a 99, is there a difference in the Vortex Rammer for 99 vs later years, Is the opening larger for later years? more flow which one to order?
My plans are a Supermaxx system, Corsa pace car exhaust (I like Loud), Z06 Cam and intake. Fidanza flywheel and stage 3 SPEC 6 puck sprung hub clutch. PCM tuning for now? any choice differences? Please help!
If you are going to install a cold air intake. Go with the Vararam, it gives better performance than the Vortex, and is less prone to cause hydro lock.
IF you are going to go to the trouble to swap cams. There are alot cams that will make more power than the LS6 cam. If I were you I would install a bigger cam than the Z06 cam. The TR224 would give you more power and still give you excellent driveability.
I like my vortex, have had it on 2 cars for 4 years of ownership with no issues. Just my experience, I'm not going to get into the hydrolock discussion.
If you do go vortex, shop ebay, you'll get one cheap. The Vararam is the sexy intake of the day (I've seen many come and go) so many have/are selling the vortex.
You will need one for 2000 and before. I believe it was in '01 where they went to a larger MAF, so unless you change the MAF also, you must order pre-01.
Enjoy your modding whichever way you choose to go.
Like others here I have had the Vortex on my Vette since new, no problems, just don't play U-Boat Commander with it. I'd get a little bigger cam than that, like a TR224, also. And, you don't need the Stage III clutch, my Stage II with Fidanza works great at these power levels.
