I just got my car back today from having a 2400 stall converter and a new set of 3.73 gears put in, plus I had the computer relearned for the new gears. Now when I stand in it it whats to hit the rev limits before shifting gears. My car rev is still set at 5800 rpm. is this normal and with good heads & cam what can I set the rpm's at without blowing up the motor.
Stock from the factory I think the rev limiter shoud be 6150 ???
If your hitting the rev limiter before the trans shifts and it's not due to the tires breaking loose then the shift points were not set correctly.
As far as what to set the rev limiter at, what kind of valve springs are you running and do you have hardened pushrods? those are the first 2 weak points when revving the LS-1, if you upgraded both the springs and the pushrods then 6500 RPM minimum but your probably safe to 7000 or maybe even 7200~.
We offer a PCM re-calibration service for our differential customers with A4 equipped vehicles that properly calibrates the 4L60-E shifting strategies for non-stock gear ratio selections. The service cost is $99 and we can extend it to you if you wish. All that is required is for you to send the PCM to DTE, we'll make the necessary changes and send it back to you the very same day via next-day-air delivery.
