Default Maganflow X pipe installation

My new Corsa system will be here next week and I'm going to use a Magnaflow X pipe with it. I'm not going to do the install, but my friendly neighborhood mechanic who works on both my vettes will. According to the info I've been able to find, the existing H pipe must be cut off leaving some pipe behind the cats and then the X pipe fastens to these. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

That is the exact setup I have. Yes, the existing pipes must be cut. Here are the instructions for the entire Magnaflow system (step 3 addresses your question). It is important to stagger the cuts as shown, so that the clamps used to secure the X-pipe do not bump into each other or block access to tightening.

Enjoy!

Yes the stock h pipe will need to be cut. If you have an Autozone near by, they have a tool loaner program. I got a exhaust chain cutter tool from them. It cuts all the way around the pipe with just a few turns back and forth and makes a perfectly even and clean cut. I think there was a $20 deposit which you get back when you return the tool.

Thanks for the replies. BW1, those are much better instructions than I was able to find.

I'm looking at my X pipe and the instructions. The ends of the X pipe appear even in the instructions and are staggered about a half inch on the pipe. The flanged ends are staggered on the diagram and are even on my X pipe. I also noticed that the instructions are for 97-01. Was there a change for 02 and after? I have a 99 but assumed that 97-04 would be the same. Am I in trouble here?

No, it's just an oversight on their website. The link I followed to find that PDF actually said for "97-04" (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...merican&id=272, click the link for Install Sheet). My car is an '04, and we followed these instructions.

GL!

The installation is pretty easy with the chain cutter. Also, tighten all the clamps but leave them loose enough so that you can move the exhaust around a little. You will find that the 4 or 2 exhaust tips (which ever you get) will not line up level and you will have to push and pull on the X pipe to get the whole system to be level. Then tigheten them down. You will really enjoy the mellowness of the x pipe and the harmonics will disappear. Good Luck.
