Just wondering if anyone knows out there. I just had to have my windshield replaced in my 98 coupe due to some chips and scratching. When the old one is taken out, do the seals have to come off as well? Got the car back a little less than two weeks ago and now the seal right at the top corner of the drivers side is cracked. Don't think it will leak yet, but I don't want it to get worse. Thinking about bringing it back to the place that did it to see if they will replace the seals due to faulty ws install. Can anyone back me up as to if I have a case or not?
I don't think the seals had to come off, but the inside and outside moulding had to come off. I had mine replaced and had ot fix all the moulding because they didn't put it back properly.
Is it possible that if the molding isn't replaced properly that the seals could also crack? Mine occurred right at the corner joint, and had no evidence of cracking previously.
I just had the windshield replaced in my 2001, the trim around the windshield is reused but the weatherstip under the frame that the both door glass seal to should be replaced, State Farm paid for these pieces about $300.00.

After a dump truck kicked up a rock and broke mine, all of the quotes I recieved were for the glass and the seals. All of the co's I contacted said the C5's gaskets need replacing about 50% of the time. They make the determination after the glass is removed. I had both changed. I think it was about $250 for the glass and $350 for the seals.

When I had my windshield replaced about three years ago, the charge was somewhere in the $1700-2000 range for the whole job, most of which was windshield cost. It was a GM HUD windshield, but I didn't think the prices were all that different. It was an American Family recommended shop, paid for by American Family and they did beautiful work. Must have been pretty much the norm, because I can't believe that an insurance company would screw themselves. Hard to believe you can now get them for $250, plus seals.

if properly removed all seals/weatherstrips are reusable,,most glass "technicians" are not experienced with corvette weatherstrips and damage them because they are in a big hurry to throw a windshield in the car and get to the next job.

I'm not clear as to what you mean by "seals"? When the new windshield is installed, there is a black gooie nasty gunk bead (how that for technical talk) they run all around the frame. It's about 1-1/2" wide and 1" high. That's the seal for any moisture intrusion. The molding on the outside around the glass is reuseable as I recall? Mine was replaced twice because the glass used was warped at the top which created wind turbulance, i.e., noise.
Below is a Shutterfly slide show of the process if you have seen this done before. Watching is like having a controlled Heart Attack!
Just had a cement truck unload as we were driving in the lane next to him at 70 ,mph. Needless to say i drive through what seemed to be a hail strom. Result! New front window $1,900, and new front end paint job $1,600. Costly mistake for Hawaiian cement. But I did notice that the trim around the bottom of my winsheild on the drivers side did not fit flush, and the 45 degree moldings on the inner window seem to bow out in the middle? Is this normal after a new winsheild has been put in?
