looks like it is the rear main. Has anyone fixed this? any advice?
If it is the rear Main, you are in for some work.... rear, trans, and TQ tube have to be removed... OR you could pull the engine...
Here is a pic of the rear main with the bell-housing still attached to the block, I am not sure the inspection cover is wide enough to drop the fly-wheel out the bottom...
I had this fluid leakage problem twice on my 2000 A4. Fortunately, the first time it was under warranty and the dealer replaced a drive line seal to correct it. I would see these small spots of pink fluid leaking on the driveway as I backed downhill and then it would disappear. Two years later, same problem reoccurred a couple of times (smaller spots)and then I didn't see it again. It's out of warranty now and I'm not so quick to run it into the dealer until I'm sure it's a real issue. Keeping a close eye on it, but I haven't seen the leakage now for at least six months.
Well then it sounds like the rear cover has to come out and unfortunately that means either the torque tube or the engine is coming out.
The rear cover on the engine is very similar to the front cover, it has a seal around the perimiter with another seal for the crankshaft.
??Have you checked the oil pressure sensor to make sure it's not the source of the leak??
no I have not. Not sure how to check it. ?? where is it located and how do I check it? The oil pressure gauge appears to be working. I am getting ready to pull the transmission so I will pull the cover off and check the seals then.

The oil pressure sensor is behind the intake manifold so it will have to come off before you'll see if thats whats been leaking, I just noticed your username ...so is this for a C5 or a Camaro, the only reason I'm asking is if it's a C5 then don't pull the transmission yet heck even if it's a Camaro hold off on the tranny until you check the pressure sensor, it can still sense pressure find but have a crack in the housing which is where your oil leak could be.
