have a 2000frc with 20s on rear lowered with stock bolts. can get 2 fingers between tire and body. problem is that i am running 18s on the front and have bolts turned all the way and can get almost 4 fingers between tire and body. what to do?
yeah you need to cut the bushings on the bottom of the bolts, everybody says to take out the spring but it looks like a small hacksaw blade will fit in there to do the job, dont know I havent cut mine "yet"......
I cut the bushings and the ride absolutely sucked...and I'm not some pansy vette driver that thinks it should ride like a luxury car and still perform...but the ride was very, very, very hard.
Never throw those bolts out.....if you ever need them again you cannot get them without getting the whole leaf spring assembly or trying to find used ones.
Once you cut them there's no way to go back. Some will say just superglue the rubber back on but under those suspension loads that won't stay very long.
I switched to coil over shocks....granted they aren't cheap but my ride height is adjustable, stiffness is adjustable, handles immensely better since they get rid of those transverse leaf springs, and on top of it the ride quality was ten times better than stock and I have a truly independent, tuneable suspension.
I eventually added T1 sways and the car handles like you would not believe.
Hmm, thats weird. I cut mine the other day and I dont think it rides any worse than stock
If you do decide to cut them, here is my suggestion. You do not need to take everything apart to cut it. Just take the wheel off and jack up the leaf spring ( I used a bottle jack) and you should be able to get a knife in there and just stab it a few times and work your way around it, it will break apart after a few stabs. Anyways, I think that is way easier, just my .02 cents
