Is it even worth getting a chip for the 98 vette 6 speed. What would be the best chip for my car. What kind of hp gains am i looking at?
When i mean chip i also mean tuners.
I've got alot of mods
Borla system, long tubes, no cats
Varram intake
Wires
There is no such thing as a chip for a C5. You have to get your PCM reprogramed for improved performance. Actually the only 2 mods that you have is the Vararam and the LTs. The stock catback & cats flow pretty good on an internally stock C5. You won't gain anything swapping wires unless your OEM wires were bad. A dyno tune will cost you about 500.00 in most shops, if you want to get your car tuned for better performance.
Chips don't work!! Before wasting money on a tune, you need to install mods.
Get some real mods like a new cam and/or heads to make the 500.00 you are going to spend on a dyno tune worth it. In this game you want to maximize your dollar per hp ratio. A dyno tune without a major mod is a waste of money in IMHO and will only yield a small gain in hp or SOTP experience. My .02.
I picked up 20 RWHP with long tubes and Vararam. Picked up an additional 10 RWHP after a tune. If your not doing any other mod's get a tune, it's still worth it.

Surprisingly, the '97 and '98 ran much too lean, with GM correcting this in '99 (w. a better tune and smaller injectors). I'm sure the tuners on this forum will correct me, but these years were frequenly seen with an a/f ratio of 11.5:1 under WOT. GM's engineers went overboard on their saftey margins here. People have seen gains of as much as 10 hp simply from a better tune.
