This is getting frustrating. I have been fighting this for some time now. The fuel gauge reads empty at all times. Sometimes right after I fill up the gauge will read just a little over 1/2 full, but drops to empty after about 10 seconds. The description for the code is "Fuel Level Sensor 2 - Low Voltage". I replaced the right side fuel level sensor per GM service manual and that did not fix the problem. I have also tried all of the other "recommended fixes" that other people have used to fix their fuel gauge problems none have worked.
Now I am going to look for a wiring problem. I do not remember seeing any kind of PCM or BCM pin locations and descriptions in the GM service manuals. If they are there I missed them, so if anyone has the pin layouts for a '98 or a '99 let me know or post a link if they are online.
Another thought that I had was if the left side fuel level sensor was bad and sending a bad signal to the PCM or the BCM would that cause any problems with the right side.

Tom, I share your frustration. I've had four RH fuel sender/sensor units replaced in four years. The last time (#5) both LH and RH units were replaced. The thought being the LH unit was triggering a fault code pointing to the RH unit, which is sort of what the computer does. At least that was the dealers belief.
That was October/November of last year (2004). Since then I've [finally] had no problems, but I do now use a 20oz bottle of Techron every quarter. Does it work, does it help? Beats me, but it's cheap insurance and as I said, no problems since both units were changed out.
Thanks for the info Bruce. I am going to dig into it this weekend and pull both sending units. I have also tried the Techron, but it has not helped at all.
