Default Damn!! Differential Leaking

I have a Z06 gears on my 2004 which is leaking. The dealer won't service it under warantee cuase its not the 3:15 gears that came with the car.

I noticed a couple of drops of clear oil right under the differential several weeks ago. Now I have like 4 drops in the last week or so.
The gears probably have 35K miles on them. And several months ago I had fresh GM and Additive replaced.

Is there usually one common reason for the leaking? How much does it cost to fix and is it very difficult??

How many drips till it is so low that it will ruin the gears. Car seems to run fine. No whinning...but shift pretty firm 1-2 gear....but this could be recent H/C and tune.

Thanks for any help...

Hey Howie-
Sorry about your dripage. The most common reason is seal failure. The old seal wasn't designed like the new one (Anabolic).

Just FYI, I took mine in and they redid the driver side diff. I couple of months later I thought it was leaking again, but this time it turned out to be the rear axle seal.

It was around 300.00 to redo the seals at the stealership.

Yet another sig pic???

Are you noticing large drops or small ones?

I think that any more than 5 drops per day is BIG TIME trouble large or small. I have no drips now, but probably will have many when I grow up to be a dirty mtv

Good luck in fixing todos del su driposos. Bueno,

I just had the axle seal replaced as well, cost $217

Get under there and check if the leak if from one side or the other....if so, it may just be an axle seal.
Also, if it's an axle, it should be slinging it all over when the axle is spinning.
Check it out and see where exactly it is dripping from.

Howard. This is a pretty common problem. My leak was the infamous overfill condition. I did see it forming on the bottom of the left side cover but it went away. Since you had your fluid changed most likely this is not your problem. GM has had several TSB's on this trying many things. The latest is a different "O" ring and lots of a new sealer. Some folks say this works and others... Well Here is the Repair link..

Josh, Mike & Dave: thanks for the input!

Don: Thanks for the link. I actually had Andy replace the gear oil because I drive hard and wanted the rear to last... I called him and he said it was impossible to over fill because of the side mounted location.....
