Default Stainless vs. Ceramic Coated headers

Besides the cost diffrence. What are the pros and cons of stainless steel verses Ceramic coated headers. I'm only buying one set so they must be durable.

Thanks for your input,

SS headers will change color and look crapy under the hood.

CC headers will stay nice looking for a long time and reduce under hood heat better.

I have carbon steel headers that are CC'd no problems yet. My opinion if you plan on keeping the set-up for a long time go SS and if looks are important get the SS coated before install. Another plus for SS is weight. I think they are slightly lighter.

Since I always wrap my headers, SS is best for me .

I have LG Pro Long Tubes made of Stainless Steel then I had them Ceramic Coated.

THAT'S the way to go................

My Corvette shares it's time 50/50 as a show car and as a racer.

It's fast but still has to be looking good too.

If they are SS leave them alone.
Heat coating can cause the welds to crack and retain more heat in exhaust and cause the O2s to incorrectly report what the AFR is.
If they are cheap mild steel headers then do coat them.

I agree.

We do offer Coating of our LG Pro Long Tube headers but we don't do it on our own cars. I think it is redundant.

The main benefit of the Stainless steel is the heat retention. They will transfer less heat out of the pipe compared to mild steel. The coating is just for looks mostly.

Coating the Stainless will cover the "Bronze" look of the stainless after they go through the heat cycles. So for a show car, that is still driven hard, coating will cover up the discolored stainless steel.

Thanks

Thanks for your input,
Just get headers made of 304 stainless steel - they won't rust - they are light and you don't gain significent temp reductions with coatings. I really like my Stainless Works headers.

Bought my TTS's 3.5 yrs ago when they were one of three headers available (ceramic coated). The damn things are nice and pitted and tiny rust bubbles all over them.......Yeeeaaaaaaaa
