I've got a 98 with 400hp to ground and might pick up another 20 to 30hp so max 450hp to ground. I spend most of my time on the street and will not spend much time if any with slicks on the car. Currently have stock 3.42 and might change to 4.10 sooner or later. Can I have my stock flywheel resurfaced and pick up the rest of the components? I've seen good reviews on the textrailia clutch at about $950 for the whole kit, z06 replacement for about $400 and Centerforce for about $350. What type of clutch would work best for my spirited street usage?
The Z06 clutch is probably fine. If you want to upgrade, Cartek's new clutch works real well and can hold up under a lot of abuse and is pretty reasonably priced. I just switched from the stock Z06 clutch to the Cartek Clutch cause I'm tracking the car on a regular basis lately.
so what about the "people" that drive their car like it's on the track everyday .. ?
I have a Spec Stage 3 and really like it. The clutch grips great and is not much of a change from the stock z06 clutch. The spec stage 3 is suppose to handle over 600 hp so its not a bad choice if you plan more mods.
I have the LUK gold clutch that comes with the aluminum flywheel. I dealt with 6 months of vibration troubles which eventually turned out to be a botched install. After a complete tear down and reassembly, I went to another shop. They pulled it apart and re-installed it. It now works perfectly and I love it.
My advice is to make sure you use someone that knows how to install clutches.
If the Z06 clutch will hold up for me it sounds like a pretty good deal at around $400 bucks plus hydraulics.
It should hold up pretty well. The one I had in my car had 35+ Drag launches on it and held up ok. For your application it should be fine.
Make sure that the balance on the assembly is checked before installing it.
any GM clutch will eventually stick due to the pressure plate design.. Mine doesnt slip but its the 2nd one that will stick to the floor. Original one was a ls1 one. only have 330 rwhp but i drag race the car a lot.

Due to the fact that my McLeod twin disk just shredded a (or some) pads on one of the disks I am in the same boat as you, our cars are close to identical HP/Trq and I have the 4.10s. I had about 5 passes on the track on it and other than that was a spirited street driven machine. Oh less than 7500 miles on the clutch, nice aye?
I called Andy at A&A today to order the tex clutch and ended up buying a different one from him. Give him a call, I am 1/2 a country away from him and he still took the time to speak to me personally and answer all my questions, great guy.
Ask him what clutch he has on his car, I bought that one but for the life of me cant remember name at the moment.
I just installed the RPS clutch and flywheel on my car and I really like it over the stock C5 garbage. ECS is using it in a few of their 450 RWHP with no issues.

I just had the textrailia clutch installed and love it.. I am pushing aroun 350RWHP right know and I also have 4.10s and the clutch works great..
you say you not going over 450 but you never know.. don't be limited on your clutch it would suck to spend 400+ on a Z06 the want to put down more power later then have to replace it again..
Might as well over due it a little and be safe then under do it and be sorry later...

I also have this clutch and really like it. I had it installed during my head/cam days when I was at 420rwhp. It performs great on the street. I have not drag raced so I can't speak to its holding power but I've read it is rated to 575 HP (not sure if that is at the wheels or flywheel). LUK made the OEM C5/Z06 clutches. The LUK Pro Gold feels/performs like stock but holds up under more power.
I personally did not like the aluminum flywheel that came with the LUK. I'll get my car back tomorrow from a turbo install, and one of the other things I had them do was remove the aluminum fly and put a steel one back in. I did not like the additional revs needed to get the car going with the aluminum fly, and it makes for a little noisier drivetrain no matter if the install is good or not. Aluminum flys have been proven to give a performance benefit but I didn't like the change in drivability (but I think I'm in the minority on this).
