Default Max Rear Tire Size??

What's the maximum rear tire size I can install on an '04 Vert without rubbing? The rear wheels are 10.5" wide, but I'm more concerned about body interference than I am about wheel size.

Anyone have experiences they'd like to share?

I had a 335/30-18 on a 12" wheel and they rubed on the qurter panel cutting them to the belts. I now have a 315/30-18 pilot sport 2 and absolutely no rubbing. Great tire, its for a prosche gt2. It should fit on a 10.5. the only problem is its a little shorter than stock. However the grip is incredible! 4k launches on the street and almost imposable to slide. almost too much grip, it kills the fun

Went to a local GTG and saw a vette with 19X11 CCW rims with a 325X30 (unknown brand of tire) mounted on it (rear). He said no rubbing problems and no modification done. He was also running twin turbos under the hood.

Has your car been lowered? Mine is dropped on the stock bolts. I wonder if the 315s will still fit?

you have to look at the whole picture. Wheel width, wheel offset, tire size, how low the car sits. I am running 335/30-18s on 18x11.5 CCW Classics. My car is lowered and it rubbed bad on the inside wheel well and on the leaf spring. Some guys run this same set-up on stock height cars without a problem. So do your homework or you will be like me in the garage tubbing your car in order to get your new tires to fit.

That I do not know for sure, I have a hillbilly drive way so no way I can lower. You know keep ttt on this and someone will chime in though. Lots of guys run 315s.

Marlow you may have had to tub but I think you are better off anyway tubbing with 335's. The 335's I have seen not tubbed stick out past the fender, it's personal preference but it just does not appeal to me.

I have 4.10 gears, and I'm planning to install a blower. I know I'll need a bigger tire to hook up WOT. I just want to be sure I select one that won't rub.

As long as you still have a little room on the sides of your 295's (I assume) a 315 should fit just fine. Like i said before I highly recomend the michelin pilot sport 2. I've driven on a lot of tires, nothing else has more grip. Unless you step up to a drag radial. Just look at the 1 lap of america cars 90% had pilot sport 2's

Nothing is going to hook up at WOT if you are making serious power with your blower and 4.10s, which might not be the best gear for you anyway. I am only at 380 rwhp and can spin the tires through 2 gears and catch third and that is on 335 PSs. Put the drag radials on though and it is a different story. On the street you have to learn the right balance between throttle and traction. You might consider running drag radials all the time. Some guys even do this on daily drivers.

Same for me.... have to run ET Streets all the time if I want lots of traction. The 4:10 is great, but with a blower, would IMHO, be too much gear. That is unless you're going to beef up everything else and get really serious about racing. That combo can be done, for sure, but few do it. Not the best combo....again just my 2 cents.
I too hear lots of good things about the Pilot Sports 2. Those are on my short list when I get new tires next.

Thank you for this post. I've been toiling between the 295's and the 315's. I had actually ordered the 295's, then found out that my info (the 315's on the stock wheels won't fit) was wrong, then ordered the 315's (should have them next week). My last question was whether they would fit the wheel well, etc. Sounds like they will work perfectly. Add me to the "275/40ZR17 and 315/30ZR18" crowd.

To be sure I understand everything in this thread, You can put 315/30's on the stock wheel of a 04' vert C5?

I have an 01' vert with polished stock five stars, can I do that size as well? I guess I should ask if I can do the 275/40's in the front too.

I have seen one forum member do this(315 series on 18 x 9.5), he posted pics they looked ok. I think it is too wide myself. I would not recommend over a 295 series on a stock C5 rear. That is a 18 x 9.5, now a 315 series will fit on a stock Z06 rear wheel 18 x 10.5. On a C5 front 17 x 8.5 I would not run anything bigger than a 265 series.

But like I said there are people running wider sizes than these. You start to run into the problem of the tread being much wider than the tire and it will cup under normal inflation pressures.

Not sure about an 04 vert, but I'm about 90% certain that I will give that combo a try on an 03 Z06...
