HI there, my friends 99 c5 has a small problem. At first if car sat uncranked for MORE than 1 day it would not start and would have to be jumped off. So, I went and swapped batteries (got a new one). Now when she gets in it at first it won't even try to turn over but then if she pulls key out and puts it back in, it will crank but like the battery is low. What should I check next? Could it be the alternator? Or would it be something more serious?
Thanks,
Jamey

Jamey, did you get a spark when you touched the battery leads to the battery? If you got a big spark, you probably have something turned on all of the time or you have a short circuit somewhere. If you got no spark at all when you reconnected the lead, then I am not sure what to do next. Make sure the new battery has a full charge. Sometimes you can get a brand new battery that is almost dead. But it sounds like, at least in part, something is draining the battery down. How good are you at trouble shooting electrical problems?
Jamey, start by removing the power lead from the battery, and then put a battery charger on it over night. I wish you had an amp meter, but I am going to assume you don't have one. Then the next day, touch the power lead to the battery post and see if you get a spark. If you do, then something is on, like an after market stereo amp, alarm system, something. The next thing to do is to try to find it, and you do that by removing one fuse one at a time and touch the battery lead back to the battery post until you don't get a spark anymore. If you have no background in troubleshooting, you probably ought to take it in to a repair shop, but see what you can do with this. Me and other guys discussed this same kind of dituation in a different post a few days ago, check this out: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1133111
Good luck....Dwayne
