The dreaded column lock finally got me today. I have a Tech 2, but apparently that won't help anything. I did a search and tried a few tips from here, but nothing. Anyone have any luck freeing it in a MN6 car?
b4 I got the fix I would grab the wheel on the top right with the key on and pull real hard to the right and it would unlock.
I did the same thing except that I turned on and off the key as I pulled on the steering wheel several times, and it finally unlocked. But, while it is unlocked and "working", which it probably will do for a while, you must get the CLB installed. I think the lock has to be working when you install it!
If pulling on the steering wheel while turning the key does not work, you may have to remove the trim panel below the steering column and use a mallet to tap on the column itself.
I would install the kit that GM uses on the automatics, which removes the lock plate and a wiring harness with a relay to satisfy the BCM.
Thanks for the replies! After pulling to the right as hard as I could for a few minutes it moved. I'll be ordering the CLB asap! What's the best place to get it.
Be careful with this one, my 99 vert MN6 went in for the recall. The dealer performed their magic. went home all happy after the really hot florida day stranded due to lock up in a parking lot. after the fix new harness and all, it locked again. turns out, their can be several reasons this can happen: 1) recall not performed 2) low voltage from the battery will fool the system and lock the column 3) in my case it was a Body Control Module brain fart thet kept fedding bad codes. all the fixes above work, some temporary just be aware unless you root out the cause, when you least expect it, LOCKED again, at 7-11 top down, thunderstorm approaching, no cell phone.

Good luck!
That's cause the recall doesn't do **** for a manual trans car! Put in a CLB! The "cause" is a faulty column lock system!
