Default P0133 & P0153 Codes with LT Headers

I apologize in advance for a repeat request- I know this has topic has been raised before.

Since the (professional) install of LT headers I constantly get DTC's P0133 & P0153 related to slow response of both front 02 sensors. I have replaced one sensor and have checked the wiring to make sure the connections were not crossed. (I have stock cats and stock rear 02 sensors).

I understand from a previous post that this is caused by lower operating temperature due to the "downstream" location of the sensors vs. the stock manifold position. It was suggested that I replace the front sensors with the rear type that are desgned to operate with lower temps- but that I will need an aftermarket wiring harness. I have been unsuccessful in having any of my tech friends confirm this fix.

1. Can someone give me more information on this "replace the stock front O2 sensors with stock rear type" fix? Who sells the wiring harness (if needed)?

2. What is the downside of doing nothing other than the annoyance of clearing the codes constantly? Will this condition screw up the air/fuel ratio at start-up, part throttle, or WOT?

3. Other than (1) and (2), is there another fix?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

I had them edited out. Since then, I have not had this issue. I tried to go with the O2 simulators, but it didn't work for me. I took it back to my installer and he had them edited.
Good luck

I had a similar problem with my Stainless Works headers after about 10,000 miles. SW said that they didn't think it was a header problem but maybe the car was running rich and causing the code. So I had the car dyno tuned and the problem went away for a while [1000 miles] then came back. I have no performance problems so I just deleted the code which showed as both current [C] and history[H]. The code has not come back and the car [02 six speed] runs great. I think that it's a bad code being displayed.

im talking about the adapter that adapts the rear o2 sensors to the front o2 sensor plug

is that the one you are talking about?

I have heard that LG headers require an adapter to lengthen the rear o2 sensor wires to meet the rear o2 sensors farther down stream
thats not the one i want

Unless someone else has another idea... yes, editing them out will be the way to go. I will be trying to edit mine out the next chance I get.

I dont have long tubes but am thinking about getting them soon. I went through this exact problem with my Z28 and it drove me nuts. I basically just ran the car in open loop all the time.
From my understanding the correct fix is the one you mentioned in your original post.

rob&dalevance,

Just to confirm you are actually running the REAR 02 sensors in the pre-cat position with the flat 4 pin to square 4 pin adapters and it is still giving you codes? And obviously you either have rear 02 sims or deleted the rears in the program?

So I'm thinking of buying headers, new cats and a new X-pipe but if I have to edit out the codes...

How many people have code trouble? 50%, 75%, all, or does it vary by system installed??

I want the HP but no the hassle...

Thanks guys.

Guys,

Thanks for the replies- but let me be clear. I am referring to the FRONT 02 Sensors not the REAR. I understand "editing out" or getting simultors for the rear, but I thought the FRONT needed to be functional for the PCM to provide the correct air/fuel ratios.

They're talking about disabling the PXX33 codes, not using a simulator in the front O2 position. You can run either the front or rear O2 sensor in the front position, modulo wiring issues. You do need a functioning sensor there for proper feedback to the PCM.

BTW as a data point, I've never seen P0133/P0153 on mine. Once in a blue moon I see P1133/P1153. It's usually cool and humid when it happens, no idea if it causal.

I cant remember which is which, but yes, I do have that 4 pin adaptor. I did whatever the LG intstructions said to do. The other 2 are using simulators.

I have LG Long Tubes. I get the P0420/P0430 Low Efficiency Bank codes. I'm taking the car back to LG as soon as I can.

i get both of these codes daily!! i also have LGs, and its funny because the codes came on after 5000-6000 miles after the install!

somebody correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure these codes dont have any effect on the way the car runs. ive had the o2's scanned while the codes were present, and they were reading just fine.

i will be getting a dyno tune in a few weeks, those codes will just be turned off.... for good!!

Digging up an old thread. I went all last year and was fine. Now this year I'm throwing these codes. I moved my rear o2s to the front with adapters and it threw it even faster lol.
