If you look at my original post, I stated that pushrod issues would not cause oil burn, therefore there should be something else wrong. My point was that since you really need to look under the valve covers, and the pushrods need to be checked regardless.

Let us know what you find!

Check all valve springs, as this really sounds like the problem. It could be worse, so hope you just broke a spring!

*UPDATE* Sort of.

Been so hot, even at night have not really dug into much yet. Have got a loaner leak-down compression gage, and have 6 of the 8 plugs pulled to do that first.

In the meantime, this get's stranger. I've been gingerly driving it around listening for noises, strange smells, observe exhause, etc. The amount of smoke has now diminished significantly. A small puff on start-up and very faint whisps if at idle for a couple of minutes. Running though at idle, pull did stick and puffs come out the dipstick tube, but nothing from oil filler cap.

What is more odd, it gages are doing/showing some strange temps and pressures. Normally, no matter what, oil pressure has remained at or around 40 psi. Coolant temps around 215-220, oil temp 230 give or take. NOW - startup cold, oil pressure zooms up to 50 PSI, then starts falling to below 30 psi. Get above 2000 RPM cold and it shoot up to nearly 60 psi. After it's hot, it is below 40 all the time. At idle, hot, around 25 psi, hot rpm a5 3500 rpm or greater never comes above 38psi.

Next is coolant temps - I've never seen them run so high. Usually, even in very hot ambient outside temps, rarely got past 220 degrees, mostly around 200 at speed on the freeway or 210-215 in traffic, a/c on. Now on freeway - temps 220+ and as high as 240-250+ in traffic, a/c on OR off. Both fans running like crazy.

What the H*ell is going on here?

Could it be that during this major OVER-REV it just caused such a massive amount of manifold pressure that it somehow pumping oil up into the intake, but now slowly getting back to normal? I ran the entire codes ( options, + 4x fuel button). All history codes (only a total of 9), the most serious, was 'tachometer lost communication with PCM" The rest were just nuisance things, of absolutely NO relevance.

My guess is that you have not really noticed before how much oil pressure and temps vary. You're just looking more closely now.

Those numbers don't seem out of range particularly in hot Texas.

#1 158 lbs
#2 165 lbs
#3 159 lbs
#4 168 lbs
#5 163 lbs
#6 160 lbs
#7 164 lbs
#8 164 lbs

Put a couple of drops of oil in #1 and #3 (both on left side), the ran again.

I'd say that looks pretty good to me! The plugs look normal too.

Yep, determined to stay as cool as I can in a 100+ degree garage. My nifty $75 Lowes special a/c unit, some flex duct, booster fan, and of course DUCT TAPE to keep it all together! Works amazingly well - that is as long as you are underneath the blast of cold air.

Beats just paying $150+ for a shop fan that just blows hot air everywhere.

Found my notes from my compression test, did it before my cam change to make sure all was in shape before. I do have stock LS6 heads on the car, so that might add some compression.

CYL LBS Leakdown(at 100psi)
1 170 5%
2 170 8%
3 170 5%
4 170 10%
5 170 10%
6 170 10%
7 165 5%
8 165 5%

This was done at about 46k miles on a 2000 LS1, all original with LS6 stock heads.

If you are still getting smoke, even just at start up, a valve seal or something is not right. I'm going to go light a candle and pray you don't drop a valve. Off to Our Lady of Blessed Horsepower!

I think the vast majorities of the problems have been resolved. Compression check was OK. The seals were replaced. There was no evidence of broken valve springs. Pushrods were very close to being fine. not enough to worry about.

No more smoke, things look pretty good.

Just figure out oil pressur maladies......
