Forgive me if this has been covered a zillion times already. I've done a search and didn't find anything.
I'm looking at getting my first Corvette, a C5, as soon as I sell a Harley.
I'm trying to get a fair idea of how many miles can someone expect to get out of a lightly modded or non modded C5. I realize this depends a lot on how the car is driven.
I'm seeing some coupe's with up to 140,000 miles and wonder how much longer they may run before needing a rebuild or new engine.
In the old days of carburators, breaker point ignitions, leaded gas, and non-detergent oils, engines lasting 100K before O/H were rare. Now days 200K is common, but it's the ancilary components that wearout, i.e. waterpump, alternators, etc. The big question is how long will all the computer controlled electronic systems last.
If you're asking this because you're thinking about buying a used high mileage C5, I'd say keep looking. There are way too many good low mile cars out there. Good luck with your future purchase.

I hadn't thought about that...Thanks!
And thanks to everyone that responded.
The higher mileage C5's are going for 5-6k less which is why I was wondering. I'll take the advise about looking for a lower mileage car and spending a bit more.

you can find what u want if you look hard enough
I bought my cherry 99 vert A4 with 37k miles for 22000 and it looks and drives like new. I know i got a steal because i always follow the prices even after i bought mine
I have 114,000 miles on my car and about 70,000 of those miles have been from hell (i bought it at 43,000) and the ls1 is still running strong. my car sniffs nos all to often, and is in redline 70% of the time when i am driving. im just now replacing the clutch, and a few o2 sensors. It burns about a quart every 3,000 miles which really isnt much at all. i say buy a high milage vette, save a few grand, and if does happen to break it gives you an excuss to mod. but i will admit there is a bunch of small stupid stuff that might nickle and dime you to death, but that happens regardless to miles. so i say to you, good luck..
