Default Yet another gear question...

Searched with no luck.

How much improvment in quarter mile time should be expected going to 4.10's from 3.42's?

Also, will a 4.10 equipped MN6 top out in fifth or sixth gear?

Stock 99FRC.

TIA!

Assuming you are running 275/40/18 rear tires, which are standard C-5 size, you would be topping topping out in each gear @ 6,000 RPM.

44 65 89 116 157 232

this is running 4:10 w/ mn6

Thanks guys, I think I suck at English

What kind of improvement in 1/4 mile times (.1, 1.0 sec) ?

Will the car achieve top speed in fifth, or will it go faster in 6th?

I am not sure of the exact improvement in the 1/4 mile, but here is what I have seen.

My best run with the 4.10s, GHL cat back, and stinger intake is a 12.66 with DRs on. I believe the key word here is with DRs. Without DRs. I could not get the 1/4 mile time below 13.2 because the 4.10s were too much for the stock tires though others that I know have had better luck with stock tires.

At the track I have seen stock C5s running in the 13.6 range. figure some of the difference is the cat-back and intake, but most of the difference is the 4.10 gears.

Overall I love the 4.10 gears. The car has much more snap then before and it is easier to drive. In town I shift less because the 4.10s have a better pull at the lower speed and on the highway I do not need to shift out of 6th because I have pull there too.

I would mention that you need to know your long term goals. If you plan for a ton of RWHP the 4.10s will be no good and then consider the 3.90s. If you plan on road racing then the 4.10s also might not be the right choice (that decision is what I am going through now).

I couldn't have said it better (and I've tried). WW is right on, my street and strip experiences are the same. 4:10's are great but know what you want and where you want to go!
