I am installing the B&M Shifter today. I was wondering, can i cut of some of the threads at the top of the stick to make it shorter? Seems kinda long......
Might be a dumb question, but I was just wondering.
Yeah, I cut off about an inch, as well. But, to further make for a shorter shifter (see pic), I got a 2.25" black cue-ball from poolanddarts.com for about $6.00 delivered, drilled it two inches and tapped it, dropping it way down the shaft. Never comes loose, nor is it hot or cold, and feels great distributing increased shifting effort over a larger area of the hand.
Also, to eliminate any chance of shifter noise I got several steel shaft/pulley stops from an electric motor store (donut-like thingees with retaining set-screws) and put on the shaft under the boot as dampeners. Also, the top one holds the boot firmly against the bottom of the ****. I used Loc-tite on the set screws--no problem in 4 years.
My $.02, anyway. Enjoy the shifter and it will loosen up some with time (and, you'll get used to the stronger springs--I did and I'm a 135# wimp)

Greg,
My recommendation would be to drive with the B&M first for awhile and then decide if you want to lower the **** any further.
ya I bought my vette with a b&m already in it I tried to put the derlrin shifter in it and it wouldnt fit cuz it was cut too much. so now I cant use that shift **** and have to buy maybe one of the ball shaped shift ****
