I saw a 5 quart jug of some NEW Mobile 1 Extended Synthetic Oil.. guaranteed for 15k miles before change.

Anyone tried this out?

No reason to try it. I would not be able to let my Z06 go 15,000 miles without changing the oil, no matter what kind of oil is in it. Even if the oil does not break down, I would still be concerned about contamination.

The 15k oil has always been the fully synth.

The 5000k is regular oil
The 7500 is a blend
The 15000 is a full synth.

So we all have been using the full synth since birth.

I think thats one of the reasons the local jiffy lube just closed its doors. Most new cars have a sensor to tell you when to change the oil. It is well over the 3000 mile mark. My wifes bimmer goes 1 year or 15000 miles. Under Warranty!!!

The 15k does, it just a 5w30 you had in your engine at purchased. They are just marketing it different. The 5k and the 7.5k are not for our cars.

If this statement is accurate then why are all three versions the same price? And if they are all the same price why would you use anything other than the 15k and just change it at your normal interval?

regular mobil 1, and mobil 1 EP are NOT the same. The 15k ep is majorly beefed up

Also, who said the 5k, 7.5 and 15k cost the same? They are totally diff oils, and walmart has them priced much differently from each other...

According to the Mobil 1 site, the Mobil 1 EP (15K), is not listed as meeting the GM4718M specs. If you enter your vehicle (C5) where it asks "What's the right oil for my car?", it reads the regular Mobil 1, not the EP.

The 15k is fully synth. Mobil 1 is fully synth. Marketing ploy?

a few months ago when these new versions came out I saw them at autozone right next to the original mobil 1 and all four of the different oils where the exact same price. maybe the autozone clerk goofed up the pricing, I will stick with the regular mobil 1.

You could always change just the oil filter.

In walmart a jug of the 15k oil is $3 more than mobil 1. I didn't know if it had more additives that made it better or not.

"Mobil 1 Extended Performance formulas are designed specifically for today's longer service intervals and are guaranteed to protect for up to 15,000 miles or one year.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance has a unique formulation with boosted level of protection and performance. These formulations with the Advanced SuperSyn System contain 50 percent more SuperSyn, 36 percent more anti-wear additives, and 37 percent more cleaning agents than the current Mobil 1."

Their web site also says to use the regular synth Mobil 1 in cars that are covered by the factory warranty.
Per the site If you want total engine protection, excellent fuel economy and a product recommended for applications under warranty, you want Mobil 1®.

It sounds as if the new 15k oil is just the standard synth Mobile 1 with a few extra additives.
Site says Mobil 1® Extended Performance is a new high-endurance motor oil with 36 percent more anti-wear additives and 37 percent more cleaning agents than current Mobil 1 formulations.
