got a 03z with a hurst shifter. the shifter seams to be stuck in 4th. If I push hard it will come out but will not go into 3rd. it feel like it's riding against something when I try 3rd. It will go back into 4th or into 2nd.
after 2nd it will go through the gears. It did it 6 times and now it seams to be ok. I took the shifter apart it seams ok. Any info please
Make sure the the "stops", in other words the large set screws, haven't screwed inward, causing the stick to stay in 4th gear.
Some people say to remove them, as they're really aren't needed. I kept mine in place, however I hit them with blue Loctite once I had the shifter properly adjusted...

I had a similar problem with my Hurst sfifter, except it wouldn't go into 1st, 3rd, 5th or reverse. I used 2nd and 4th on my way to the dealer then I couldn't get it out of 4th and had to drive about 5 miles in 2nd. Turned out that the stops had backed out. When the shifter was installed they didn't use any, or the correct type of, Loctite. The dealer fixed it two years ago and I havent had a problem since, and that was 40K+ miles ago.
