Hey Guys, We have a 2000 MY Vert and the wife drove it to work yesterday and called me after she got there complaining that it was "blowing hot air" even with the air conditioning set to 60... She got home and I sat in the passenger side and put my hand over the vent and it was ice cold. Put my hand over the center vent (for driver) and it was red hot air coming out. ??? I am thinking that there is a sensor somewhere that has lost its brains, but wanted to see if any of our C5 mechanics out there could shed some light before I take it in for repair.
The following is a TSB on the control assembly...That is your unit that you adjust adjusts your temp. for both pass. and driver...Sounds like that unit is not doing what you are telling it to do....Also could be an issue with doors not opening up correctly....Blocked or motor burn out....
Some customers may comment that the HVAC controller may have become intermittently inoperative or erratic in operation. In most all cases, the HVAC controller will function normally when the vehicle is examined by the technician. Additional comments may include a variance in the air temperature from driver to passenger side air vents.
Cause
The customer may be turning the temperature **** from warm to cool or from cool to warm very rapidly. Under certain conditions, if the temperature **** is rotated very quickly, it may exceed the ability of the HVAC controller to interpret the desired action.
Correction
Cycling the key to the oft position will power off the HVAC controller and reset it, restoring normal function to the HVAC system on the next vehicle start. Instruct the customer that this is a normal function of the unit and that no repairs are necessary.
Warranty Information
You may want to provide the customer with a copy of this bulletin so that if the condition occurs in the future, the customer will not need to return to the dealership.
The dual zone automatic A/C system uses electric motors to control the dampers, they may just need to be 'recalibrated'.
Start the car, fire up the A/C, then pull fuses #18, 27 in the passenger floorboard. Wait a few minutes, then reinstall them. The motors should reset when power is reapplied if that's the problem.
Your system is low on refrigerant. The system blows air for the passenger from the lower part of the evaporator (under dash). The driver side gets air from the upper part of the evap. When refrigerant is low the upper part is warmer and therefore the difference in temp. The system only holds 1.5# of R134a. Have your a/c service rep add some refrigerant and check for leaks.

My wife's car had the same symptoms, cold passenger, warm center and driver side. We tried all of the fuse pulling and battery disconect with no luck. Took it by a trusted tech, and he found a small leak in the seal where the hose ataches to the back of the compressor. Replaced seals and recharged and it's now ICE COLD!!
