The dual climate control system on my 2001 Vert has lost its readout.
The heater and air conditioner work as well as all the controls ( fan speed, mode control [defrost, vents, foot ducts] variable heat etc
But there is no readout...
I've checked the fuses for the HVAC system and dash controls they appear fine.
Does anyone know which fuse or fuses control the display?
Is it possbily a bulb? If so how do I replace it?
Or is the system shot?
All advice appreciated
This has been a problem for lots of members here and I've seen a couple of things that have worked but certainly no final solution has popped up so far. Most just replace their HVAC control unit. One guy started fooling with his interior light dimmer and his HVAC display lit up again. Another member posted this "fix" - soldering in LED's to light the display. Not for the faint of heart.
And finally, forum member DirtyGlass posted his fix for this:
Electronic Climate Control Display FIX
From time to time my display would go dark, dim or not come on at all. I think there are other members that are shelling out BIG bucks for a replacement. Well I just fixed mine in about an hour. The hardest part was removing the console plastic. What a pain in the A$$....
The problem is cold solder joints on the circut board, not the display like some assume. It is rare but the displays do go bad but in most cases hitting the resistors on the display circut board fixes the issue. Not being an electronic genius i decided to just tap each resistor, both sides of the resistor, with a hot 15W pointed tip iron.
I had the same problem with a Jeep Grand Cherokee limited radio display and found the fix on the web. I just applied the same technique and senario to the Climate Control, and Viola.....
Good luck, hope this helps and happy fixing For a reasonable charge of 25 bucks plus shipping I can fix and test the faint hearted....
Mine gave up the ghost a little while ago. I read the post about the cold solders and thought I'd give it a shot. After I opened up the unit and saw the severl hundred solder points I started to think that $46 is a pretty smoking deal. Sent mine off last week and already got a UPS notice that its on it's way back. Here's the info on the repair guy.
