Installed alpine head unit Need speakers...which ones?
Ok so now my radio makes a crazy POW sound everytime it does anything like change tracks etc... I need aftermarket speakers for the front doors so i can get rid of the bose amp... now it says they are 3.5 but i find that hard to believe because they make a decent amount of bass on the stock stereo..can anyone tell me what speakers sound good in the car? im not adding a subwoofer..just something with some bass and is clear...which will sound good.
the front does have 3.5 inch speakers but it also has 8"(i think) woofers that are separate from the 3.5s. i know the 8" speakers will not work with an aftermarket stereo so you could probably get a decent sized speaker to fit in there.
Front doors take 6 1/2. Get yourself a good set of components. I am getting ready to purchase some Focal 165K2Ps. You don't have to go that high but I am just looking for the best quality and I like those the best out of all I listened to including the Focal Utopias.
BTW, you will have to fabricate some panels to use aftermarkets or you can contact forum member vrumvrum and he will make some for you. I just made some yesterday for myself. Not that hard.
I upgraded my head unit last year and worked with a couple of local stereo stores which all agreed that there would not be any difference in sound over the Bose speakers because of there size and the built in amps.. Also I have a convertible if that makes any difference.. I would be very interested in how everything works out..

C5 bose set-up is very different than C4 set-up. Not sure which gen. you're talking about.
The C5 coupes/FRC's have 5.25" in the rear compartment and the verts have 3.5"s ( which are conveniently covered up when the top is down )
I made panels for my doors out of 3/4" mdf. http://simpleman68.onfinite.com I also have pictures of the dash frame etc.
I think the only way to fly is to replace the speakers and head unit with an amp to drive the new set-up. Just to replace the speakers is usually futile as they will rarely sound as good as Bose designed the system to work together as a whole.

The Focal Utopias are very good but very, very pricey, the other side of $500 a pair. I don't know if you can hear $500+ worth of speakers. If you don't want to go that deep you may want to look at the Boston Acoustics Pro60s. Very good speaker and it cost about $350 a pair.

Agreed. There are some good quality speakers out there that don't break the bank.
I went with the Utopias as I CAN hear the difference. I've worked on training my ear for 20 years and have been taught how to listen and discern well reproduced music and I want the best I can get for my money.
Many of my friends laugh at me and could care less until they sit and listen to one of THEIR cd's they've heard a million times and suddenly they hear details they've never previously heard in the music.
You don't have to spend a ton to get a good set-up though. Lots of good deals out there to be had.

I've bought from them twice recently and have been very pleased with their selection/price/delivery and cust. support.
