As my car gets more miles on it my gas mileage is steadily declining. Is this typical of most cars, I wouldn't know because this is the first car I kept past 50,000 miles. I am at 90k now and the gas mileage is around 15.5-16.0. These cars don't need 'tuneups' do they? Any suggestions, thoughts?
Ha, My mileage is steadily decreasing too, but it's not because of the car!!! I am driving more and more aggressively! However mine spends most of its time on the interstates and outside of town so it is still averaging over 25 - 26 mpg.
It has had all its maintenance, i.e. oil changes, filter changes. 30k, 60k checkups. Perhaps the 90k checkup will work out some of the issues. I need to have them check the transmission anyway, it seems to stick in gear when getting on it really hard. It will rev up high like say in 2nd then 'unstick' and shift into 3rd. Transmission fluid change maybe?
Plugs and wires need to be changed out. If this has not been performed yet I think you will see a difference. Might also be the transmission slipping. Filter and fluid for that as well.
