I recently had Corvette Mike install a cooler running stat, (they said it was 160 or 180*). I've now had my 2004 C5 tuned by a pro using a new predator. He has the fan coming on about 195*. Yesterday after the tune my car still runs at about 200-210*. With the previous stat that the factory built the engine with it stayed pretty much at 190*, (real hot in stop/go it would get to 220* a few times). The only other change made at the same time as the stat is I swapped gears from 2.73 to 3.42. Any suggestions??

There's a lot of stories like this after changing thermostats on these engines. There's also some success stories. I suspect most of the installed aftermarket thermostats are Hypertechs and it's a hit-or-miss thing, unfortunately. Too bad quality control isn't where it should be. There is, however, a new player (at least to me) for these lower setting LS1 thermostats, and that is Stant. I believe they've been in the business for a long time and have a really good reputation. If I change mine, that's what i'm going with. The Hypertechs are too iffy. Here's the link: http://www.stant.com/

I put a Stant 180 in my 97 and dropped 25 to 30 degrees in stop and go traffic! Fans are NOT reprogrammed...I also did a fluid flush and added water wetter...
I got the 170 Thermostat and still running same temperature. It will only take a lil longer to get to normal temperatures.I'll suggest the thermostat with the re-program unit for the fans. That should help a lot.
