Default Window Shield Wipers gone wild.

Title says it all. Start the vette to go on a afternoon cruise. The wipers start up and are going like crazy. At first I thought that I hit the control lever with my knee. Not so. It was in the off position. I calmly try to shut off the wipers. Tried for about 2 minutes, but they are still going strong.
I pushed the button for the spray hoping that maybe that would help. Well that made things even worse. The little button that you push for water to spray on the window. Well it popped out, along with the little spring or springs, Now the water is squirting on the window like made and the only way to shut any of the off, is to turn the engine off. I'm open for suggestions. I can't drive the car with the wipers running all the time. I could pull the fuse. Then I wouldn't have any wipers. Has anybody run into the problem yet?

Had the same problem in my 02 vert. The washer button popped out while the car was stored. The wipers and washer kept running. I was lucky enough to find the 2 little springs and got it all back together with a little black electrical tape holding the washer button in place. The dealer replaced the entire wiper/washer stalk under warranty.

I found the one spring. Looked all over for the second one. No luck. It took about 10 minutes to figure the connectors needed to be separated. I wasn't sure what the heck was going on. Guess I'll get a new spring at the dealership, and fix it myself. Thanks for the support.

I found the other spring in the passenger seat. Re-installed the two springs and made sure the button was snapped in the stem. It works like a charm. Looks like it's cruise time. Thanks for the help.

Same issue here, but it kept coming off. Eventually it burnt up the washer pumps by running out of fluid when I lost a spring one day. I'd recommend getting it fixed next time you're in for any maint.
