The air pump makes an unusually large amount of noise when I start up and until it shuts off in a minute or so - - Is this common? I have 88,000 miles on the car now. Can the pump be repaired or must it be replaced?
Second question - - Is the windshield washer level sensor (or whatever it is called) located aft in reservoir a "pull out" removal? How do you remove and replace this device?
Thanks
EEL
The airpump should be replaced if the motor is noisey. Additionally you should have the rest of the Air injection system checked for other faults. On some cars the pulsed air injection valves (PAIR valve) develop leakage where moisture from the exhaust can travel to the pump while the sytem is deactivated. This causes the pump to fill up with water and consequently destroy the airpump. While this is a possibility I have no proof of this being a commonality among the LS1's. So take that with a grain of salt. None the less, do have the system op checked. Are there any codes stored in the PCM?
Secondly, I can't offer any advice on the washer fluid level sensor - just haven't been there yet on my car. The low fluid light won't shut off?
Thanks, no codes - - - just annoying for a few seconds when I start the engine - - - kind of a low whistling noise like blowing over the top of a soda water bottle when we were kids!
