Default Handling problems

Hello everyone,

I have an '01 vert with 24,000 miles on it. I'm running the GY runflats, and they have about 5k on them.

My vette has developed this odd pulling. Most of the time it tracks perfectly straight down the road, but sometimes (randomly it seems) it wants to pull to the right or left fairly hard. It will do this for for a few seconds then be fine again. I can't seem to find any pattern to which way it will pull, or when it will do it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong? Do I need an alignment maybe?

I had the same problem, and made the mistake of writing it off as normal because of the size of the tires, or 'trenches' in the road. I then found out my front tires were SEVERLY warn on the inside. Most the time, the car wouldn't pull, and the wheel was always pointed straight, so I didn't think it was an alignment problem.

Anyway, long story short my car has had an alignment, and no longer does that random pulling. It will still pull if I go down a stretch of uneven road, but it's much more predictable.

If you haven't had an alignment recently I would highly recommend it.

Check to make sure you don't have a brake pad dragging (Caliper lube). Used to get it on Sprint cars occasionally, especially on a dirt track.

I've wondered if it could be a caliper dragging. It seems that sometimes the brakes do drag some, and it also seems that sometimes the pedal doesn't return all the way.

How do I check if a caliper is sticking and what do I do about it?

highly doubt its a caliper sticking

probably an alignment issue and or tie rods wornout or something like that...a GOOD alignment shop will check everything like that before they even put it on the rack to align it. unfortunately most alignment places just throw it on the rack and charge you $50 regardless of whether its going to really help...

What do I need to look for in an alignment shop? Is the dealer my best bet? What is an alignment going to cost me?

word of mouth is about all you can count on IMO...

the best shop around here only does alignments and they stay booked for about 2 weeks out... The dealership did a 4 wheel alignment for me last time since I didnt have time to wait 2 weeks to go to the good place, it costed around $50.

the good place wouldnt even TRY to align one of my cars one time because they found the tie rods were worn (they check everything on every car before they align it) and said it'd be wasting my money until I replaced those
