Default FRC Clutch question

Is the clutch on a 99 FRC the same as what became the Z06 clutch or is it a standard coupe clutch. I ask because I want to buy DRs and everyone seems to think that the Z06 clutch is strong enough to handle 400 rwhp; and I don't want to buy a new clutch!

I believe it is the standard clutch

it isn't going to last too long at 400rwhp IMO regardless... so be ready to buy something better

the 99 frc came with the stock LS1 clutch, which I burned mine up at 362 rwhp as soon as I put on something besides the run-flats, did the Z06 street tires on my stock rims. First trip to the strip, bye bye ls1 clutch.

So I put in an 02 LS6 clutch.

Later put in a cam, up to 400 rwhp now, started using BFG DRs. Half a season at the track, bye bye LS6 clutch.

So I said screw this, and put up $1700 for an Exedy Hyper-Twin. Still at 400rwhp, ran all season, clutch was good. Set of 4.10s and bigger DRs, bye bye Exedy.

So now I just got a Textrailia put in, we'll see how that goes.

IF you are going to use DRs and take it to the strip, I would bypass the LS6 clutch, go to with a Textrailia. At 400rwhp the LS6 is fine for street driving, will not last at the track with DRs. If you still have the LS1 clutch, save yourself a tow or a limp home, and replace it now.

Not an expert, just my $.02... Good Luck!

Afterthought: If you have access to a lift and can do the clutch swap yourself, you have alot more choices. The clutch swap for the C5 is very labor intensive, especially with Long Tube headers, so if you have to pay someone to do it, get something good.

The Z06 uses a different clutch than the FRC.

Interestingly, my FRC (2000) had a *much* heaver stock clutch than one of the 99's I drove.

They did some minor changes mid production cycle on the 2000s methinks. You probably got one with the high flow cats too.
