Default Corvette wannabe

Hey everyone! I am considering getting a C5 or C6 corvette in the next few months. I want to get some information before I buy.

What are the best years for the C5? Any thing to look out for? Any mechanical problem areas? What's the best time of year to buy. WHat's a good price range?

I am looking for a black convertible, 6 speed. Thanks for the help.

Hi Travis and welcome to the Forum.

You may find it better to ask general questions about the C5 of this type over in the C5 General Forum. C5 Tech is mainly for the discussion of specific C5 technical topics. There is a sticky thread at the top of C5 General that speaks to a number of common problems of the C5 that you may like to review:

Weights, measurements, ratios, strengths, etc

Also, the Forum Index lists all the forums here and the topics appropriate for discussion in each.

Hope this helps and good luck finding the right new ride!

I would suggest sticking with the '01 & '02 model years. Best for modding IMO. LS6 Intake & Block already . The '03s ( some of them ) and ALL '04s have the newer fuel system issues to deal with. ( This means more $$$ when modding). I know this is not comprehensive but at least a starting point.

P.S. Beware though some of the '01s & '02s have the oil burning problem . I guess nothing is perfect. And oh yeah a friend has an '02 vert up for sale. PM me if you are interested. Very low miles.

1999 = best bang for the buck. They are very affordable.

Thanks so much for the advice.

"oil burning problem"? is that just for '01-'02? what causes this?

can one of you moderators move this thread to general discussion? sorry for misplacing it. Thanks again!
