Default cammed 01 vs cammed 04 zo6

I need some other peoples outlook on something. I got a 01 zo6 with the G5X-3 cam, lg long tubes with cat delete, stingers, twin cone filter, ngk plugs, msd wires. Car made 408 n/a with 24* of timing. I backed the timing down for the nitrous.

Friend has a 04 zo6 with ghl long tube headers, random tech cats, ghl exhaust with a halltech intake and a 232, 236 cam. He just installed the cam and has not got a chance to tune it.

Now we did a 40 roll on last night on the freeway. I barely beat him by 130 or so. The front of his car was at my back tires. Now, for some reason I would think that I would be able to pull him more then that. I am pretty sure my cam is bigger then his. I still got some more tuning to do but seeing he has not tuned his, I would think I would of done better.

I just loaded a new map last night and added some timing to the n/a map. I am runnin 29-30* of timing now and not getting any knock yet. Gonna see if this helps any.
Any idea as of why i would not be able to pull him harder. I know the 01's are down alittle on power compared to the 02-04 and so on but still..

Ls6 head don't like any more than 22-24 degrees of timing. Just because you don't see any knock doesn't mean the motor likes. FWIW 408 seems a little low for LG headers and a G5X3. Go to the dyno and see for yourself. Both your cars should be very evenly mactched, the G5X3 is not as big as you may think-it's very close to your buddies cam. The only advantage he has now is his heads have the lighter valves.

Not exact, but the h.p. varibles between the 01-04 were the cam, filter, headers. You have already addressed these with both rides.

You will get a lot comments regarding total timing and timing tables.

Okay what do you suggest. If I run 22* I dont even make 400rwhp. I put more timing pull more fuel, no knock, motor is 12.1 a/f then I make more then 400rwhp. And also what are the specs of the g5x-3 then. Please PM if necessary.

I don't know the G5X3 specs exactly but I do have a very good idea-I will PM you on that tomorrow after I search through my notes. I would stick to no more than 24 total timing and set up the AFR at 12.9 on the dyno to see what she makes. You don't have to have the fuel at 12.1 just because you run spray-it's a wet kit right? It will add fuel and you'll probably end up around 11.5 anyway. Remember to just add some fuel once you get the N/A tune down-to like 12.5, because your car will run leaner on the street. You should look into getting a LM-1 wideband so you check your A/F on the street N/A and on the gas. Remember even if there is a 30 horse difference between the 2 cars your not just going to walk away from someone-you need to be making alot more power to do that.
