well.... my car is still pinging....and it's about 70 here today so it's not heat related.... i ran it nearly dry of gas and filled up somewhere else..... i even tried some octane boost...no luck..... it rattles worse under 2000 rpm...... like the timing is off...?????? anyone??????

Have you taken the plugs out to read them and see if it is just a single cyl like a bad plug, coil, wire, etc..? One of those bad can cause it. Also have you scanned the motor to see what the sensors are telling the ignation system?

Also if you scan it see what the temp and knock sensor is telling the system.

Default Hmmmm

Detonation (pinging) will occur at lower RPM,s especially if under any kind of load,You probably noticed it goes away with any kind of higher RPM. Maybe you just got some fuel that wasn't quite up to snuff octane wise? It takes some hard, hot, long term detonation to do any damage, so slight ping is annoying, but nothing to really worry about. See if good, Premium, name brand gas takes care of it next tankful. You're lucky to be in Maine, Too Hot here, too many cars, Roads are flat & boring....Hope to visit up there sometime.

I'm also wondering how many miles you have on her. Timing chain wear can cause some minor timing issues too.

If you're getting any oil ingestion through your pcv system, this is hurting too. There are a whole raft of guys that have gone to catch cans, etc in order to keep the crankcase vapors from being introduced into the intake manifold through the pcv system. Many folks have reported a significant reduction (or elimination) of KR after the modifications. This oil apparently effectively lowers the octane rating of the fuel, therefore more pinging, therefore more KR. HTH
