Default Headers and rumors?

Thinking about headers for my 2000 cpe with free flow cats and X pipe and route 66 catback. Here are things I have heard. Are they true>

The damn things leak

The make the under hood temps higher

They wear out quickly

They will add 40 rwhp

They do not void GMPP

They kill your gas mileage

What's true and what isn't?

The damn things leak - Quality headers do not leak.

They make the under hood temps higher - Only if you touch the headers, temp seems same to me.

They wear out quickly - Huh? Mine are all stainless and will outlast the cast iron.

They will add 40 rwhp - possible, mine with a tune and intake did 40rwhp.

They do not void GMPP - depends on the dealership

Hope this helps...

not if installed properly
temps stay aprox the same
good set will last the life of the car
40 rwhp is about tops but you should get it with your other exhaust mods
not necessarily - up to dealer
only if you jump on the gas cause you like the sound.

Just to throw in my .02

I would only plan on headers if you plan to do a cam and or heads otherwise the stock headers are not that bad.

I think better money spent is on replacing the stock gears. My car with 4.10 gears, cat-back exhaust and halltech stinger air intake ran the 1/4 in 12.66 which was faster than many of my friends that had the headers done instead of the gears.

Just something else to think about....

Headers do leak if[1] you use a cheap gasket[2] you do not retighten after several heat cycles.A jet hot coated header actually reduces underhood temps, others , there is no change. An uncoated mild steel header can rust out in as little as two years, most will outlast your car.40 hp,roflmao.Flame away!According to the law they void the warranty on your stock exhaust maifolds.Usually improve gas mileage in most cases.

Good headers do not leak, if installed right and use good gaskets, IE OEM LS1 metalic ones. Warrenty is ify and just like above, depends on who and what...

40rwhp LMFSO??? I got 35 and 35, dropped over 4 1/10ths and got over 4 MPH in the 1/4!!! It is not about the peak HP gain for 99% of the driving we do, unless it is a track only car... it is the torq below the cruve and good headers provide a ton of torq. I went with LG Pro Long tubes, and LOVE them. My gas milage actualy went up too and I get over 29mpg now. Best mod IMO as it changes the persoanlity of your car and makes it much more agressive

I can't add anything to what everyone has already stated, but I can add that in regards to your warranty, if you are denied warranty work, the dealership has to prove that the warranty failure was directly related to the header install. IE. A bad CD player obviously can't be related.

A suggestion to everyone that said "it's up to the dealer" read this link - http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?id=60128
