Default Vararam B1 vs. B2

Whats the difference? I thought I had purchased a B2 from a forum member but it is apparently a B1. Is the difference worth switching it out?

I think the main differences are the latching system (B2 uses two rubber latches - one on each side) and improved filter (fits better that old one). I also believe the B2 has been around since last winter (B1 discontinued). Maybe someone else may know more.

My B1 uses two rubber latches - one on each side of the air filter compartment. I think the only difference in filter now is the baja filter comes standard instead of the HP filter. The baja was available for the B1, but the HP filter was standard. I don't think the filter's have changed. I really don't know what the difference is. I thought I read on an add for them that the air inlet tubes were redesigned. Sorry I could not be more help. I would not sweat it much I bet they are nearly identical in performance.

The biggest complaint about the B1 was the possibility of water injestion[hydrolock]I remember them saying the new one has a way for this water to escape. I don't have one so I cant confirm this one way or another.

I think they did enlarge the drain hole also. I am just going by memory hear though of past threads. I think the drain hole is bigger and a little further up the tubes coming from the fog light. On my B1 the hole is was way down at the bottom the tube and fairly small (1/8" hole?). Maybe someone with a B2 can chime in a tell us what the drain tube looks like on his.

I have a B2.
The B2's drain is located at the bottom inward edge of the intake 3 3/4 inches back ( from the front edge of the bezel). It is an 11/64" diam. hole.
Hope this helps

Imagine the B1's drain can be modified to match the B2's?

What should a slightly used B1 system go for on today's used intake market? $$$$

Well I think I would go maybe 200. I would ask a forum member who has one to send you a copy of the parts list though, and check with the seller to make sure he has everything. I personally would not be concerned if it is a B1 or a B2. They are going to perform the same.

I have not seen that many used ones for sale. I think in general people keep them on once they do the install.

Here's what LAPD says about the B2. Take it for what it's worth...

"Features over the original VR-1:

Reshaped ram tubes for added velocity. Multi-piece airbox gasket assembly for positive seal. Reshaped top airbox for added velocity. Easier installation. Adjustable/pivoting front mounts, again for ease of installation. Reshaped water troughs for added velocity and performance."

Personally, I don't think there's enough of a difference to bother upgrading. YMMV.
