they flow better when dirty than paper filters when dirty and you only have to buy them once.
In theory better flow increases hp. but gains in the 5HP range are hard to statistically validate
Great filter and great base for all air intake mods.Blackwing, halltech,k&n
all the same, cloth fliter Paper filters are
trash items for me. Finally an oil pro here says Good oil tests with the K&N
Only way to fly

Not so my friend...the K&N is less restrictive, as you say, but actually traps more dirt than normal filters. The filter media is more capable of trapping unwanted dirt and debris than the average paper filter, no matter who makes them.
While I don't have one on my current car, I did have one on my previous vehicle and found them to work very well. Just because it is more efficient in allowing air in, does not necessarily mean that it lets more dirt in.

Here is a quote from the attached link. You have to read the entire article.
"Compared to the AC, the K&N “plugged up” nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt."

I was thinking about buying a K & N airfilter, I have no mods to my car.
Would it do anything good?
If you bother to do this try to pick up a used Zo6 cover at the same time(from one of the forum members) to help get a LITTLE more air into the system.
OR SPEND THE BIG BUCKS FOR A.........Vararam/Honker/Vortex/ETC.
Those tests prove nothing, except that most statistics are made up on the spot.Show me one lawsuit that found K&N guilty of making an inferior product that causes engines to wear out prematurely. There are none!In this day and age of suing everyone over anything, Don't you find that intriguing. This pic[unretouched] is my throttlebody after 15,000 miles of k&n use, the small amount of discoloration on the edges of the throttle plate were removed with one cutip and some rubbing alcohol. Cost per horsepower gained approx. $10, compared to LG longtubes, $80+per horsepower, that doesn't include installation. In the real world filters are not subjected to huge volumes of specifically sized dirt particles...
Whats with the sand in that throttle body? The carbon residue you wipe off a throttle body is not from the aircleaner, it's from combustion reversion. Happens is most engines, especially with some cam overlap.
I tried a K & N in my 04 Z and the zip tie mod. It knocked like hell at WOT. So it was probably too lean. Instead of messing with tuning, I put the stock filter and cover back in and it runs perfect again. The couple hp it may give wasn't worth it to me.

I noticed the same thing!! Wow I sure don't want any of that in my engine. This seems to prove the K&N is not good at filtering.
You will not see any HP gain from the K&N filter. I have done the mod and dyno'd the change which was NEGATIVE at the wheels. I posted this a long time ago when I was driving my '99 6-speed - I haven't heard anything new about K&N since. I imagine they are the same as a few years ago... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...um_id=1&arch=1
What appears to be sand was in fact dirt on the lens of the camera, take a close look, sand? extends to the bottom of the photo. I have since replaced my home modified air box with a Halltech Stinger, there was no sand or dirt with 31k on the clock.I don't much believe in dynos, with nothing more than a k&n and ZO6 lid I improved almost .2 and 2.5 mph in the quarter.
