Competitive driving mode leaves active handling on and turns traction control off. You will run faster in competitive driving mode in the qtr mile than running with the traction control engaged.

When the TC is on and you spin the rear tires on a launch, the computer pulls power for an instant and may also apply the brakes momentarily. All of this happens in a nano second, but it can definitely slow your launch. It is better to go into Comp. mode which leaves the AH on, in case you get sideways, but have the ability to spin the tires a bit more since the TC is off.

All of us 1/4 mile guys run in Comp Mode. We can still do burn outs, but if the car gets funny down the track we all hope the Active Handling kicks in.
BTW - don't run with everything off. If there is some computer aid to help you then I would suggest using it...
