Does the X-pipe replace the cats?

Does the X-pipe replace the cats?
I have heard a few people talking about there C5's and mentioning there stock x-pipe. Is there a stock x-pipe on the C5? Also I was thinking of the Borla Stingers and a X-pipe for my 98. Does the X-pipe replace the cats or how does this work? Please enlighten me!

The x-pipe comes after the cats and replaces your stock H-pipe.
So (in order) it goes exhaust manifolds/ headers, cats, H-pipe, cat back exhaust.
