I can't find the post about some after market vent or louver system that went into the front fenders of a C5. to let air flow out of the engine bay. Help, anyone? THIA
You don't need to buy anything. Just unbolt the plastic covers inside the front wheelwells and you will see the "beauty covers" which block most of the air from exiting the engine bay to the front fender gills. Remove those, replace the wheelwell covers, you're done. FWIW I only did the driver's side, some do both, but the pass side one also keeps excess water off the pcm and it's connectors. Some say that's not a problem, I didn't want to chance it.
Does sound interesting, my question is does this make gettin stuck at a light any hotter. Cause the vents are right there and you get the idea. Any hotter for the driver passenger if the windows are open?
Some of us undo a portion of the weather strip on the driver side engine compartment (right by the brake fluid reservoir), which is a low air pressure area, to allow hot air to escape.
Not to Hi-Jack the thread but has anyone mounted oil coolers in those locations?? Seems like it may be a nice area of airflow as well as maintaining ground clearence.

Sorry no pics.
I haven't noticed it getting any hotter, it does push out a whole lot of hot air, but only if the fans are on (and I usually have the windows up and the AC on then), or when you are moving. When moving, the air flows past the doors and again I don't feel the extra heat in the passenger compartment.
Do this mod, get the engine hot, and put your hand by the gill when the fans are on. You will feel the heat it allows to escape.

It's stuff like this that get me to wondering, if it's that simple AND that efficient for removing excess heat, why didn't the factory do it in the first place? Surely those engineers aren't that stupid, are they, to have overlooked something so obvious?
Does water come out through those vents when driving through the rain if the covers are removed? That in itself would be enough for me not to do it.
I'd also like to hear more about this mod. I have heard of taking about a 4inch pc of weatherstriping in front of the driver side. I read a very long thread on it several months ago, got kind of heated due to the differences of opinion on whether it actually pulled heat out of engine bay or not.
I have done this mod...........I also put in the screens(mesh) ...like was stated the drivers side I also removed the black partition...the passenger side is all closed up tight with the battery, comp.etc and there is no way that you are letting any extra heat out.........I also have headers.............
I've never had water come out of the open vent... The only downside I've found (had the driver side open for 5 years now) is that you can see the inside of the wheelwell, not as pretty as the panels. Hey they're black, and hard to see much of, so I don't care.
