...For the average guy with a daily driver, who can't see spending
$250 or more on an aftermarket air cleaner...
If it's just an average daily driver, it should be plenty of fun as is. It depends on what you want out of it.
My 100% stock '03 auto coupe had been running 14.0x at 100MPH in the quarter mile at LACR(high density altitude track in the high desert of So. Cal.). I put only a Blackwing open air cleaner on it and it ran 13.7X at 103MPH at same track. Runs were on different days, but within the same month.
It also dyno'd at LAPD at 318RWHP and 331.8ft-lbs torque. Between the track time improvement and the dyno numbers, the cost of the Blackwing was worth it for me. Other purely stock auto coupes dyno'd the same day at around 290RWHP.
Unless you do an actual CAI mod, vararam, honker, or something like that you will do just as well with a modified stock box and an K & N. Or do the Zip tie mod. Then modify your fog light shrouds to let in some ambient air.
Pull the front cover off, exposing the filter. use zip ties to zip tie the filter to teh back of the cover so it doesnt flop out.
And I also would recommend replacing the stock paper filter with a K & N. This set up will match any of the aftermarket filters that do not either pipe in ambient air or modify the radiator shroud.

I switched to a Z06 airbox, and removed the foglight surrounds. I will be re-dynoing my Vette in about a month. I'll let you know what, if anything it did for me. It feels more responsive.

What do all you zip tie guys do about the water from the hood directly splashing on the filter? The one thing I like about the Z06 airbox the design that reflect water away from the filter.
