Default Correct GM p/n for LS6 head gaskets ?

I thought it was 12498544 but when I called to order them they said the new number was 12589226 does anyone know if thats right or not ?

I went ahead and picked up the 12589226 set but I want to make sure before I open them they will work.

I'm going to be using them on AFR 205 heads if it makes any difference.

Thanks..

this might be it--the 04's used a diff head gasket; i use gmpartsdirect.com's catalog feature and ck the diff #'s w/ depending on year
i found the xx44's you ref. here as '02 newer metal style
http://www.paceparts.com/index.asp?P...earch=12498544
this is how i got there and a bunch of other part#'s(i like pn's )

I could be wrong, but the AFR Heads are LS1 based and thus you shouldn't need an LS6 specific head gasket. Just my .02.

Just checked it for you, the correct headgasket to use for an 02+ LS1 or LS6 is 12498544.

In reference to your first post, I have found through many ordeals with the dealership that the best way to deal with them is with part #'s only. You don't have to worry about giving them a VIN # and there very little chance of them screwing up.

I just took the LS6 heads off this afternoon and it had a regular gasket not the metal gasket like I bought.

I was thinking the 12498544 was the gasket like it came with but now I'm finding we have another number to consider with 12498543 being listed on LS1 how to.

I'm even more confused now, I hope someone will chime in with some first hand knowledge.

Thanks for the help !
