I recently purchased (less than a month ago) a 1999 A4 convertible. This is my first corvette and I was really excited.
Last week I had a new sound system installed and noticed afterwards that there was a "delay" when I turned the key before the engine would start. It was okay for a couple of days until it displayed the "Pull key wait 10 seconds" message. Then it would display the "Service Column Lock" error message and when you attempt to pull off the car shuts off. I searched the internet and found this site. I have read most if not all of the threads regarding this problem and I believe I understand the problem. I have tried many of the suggestions that have been suggested. Disconnect battery, pull fuses 23 and 25 etc. I called Corvettes of Houston to purchase the CLB but the parts guy there told me that it would not work if the recall had been done. I checked with the dealership and confirmed that the recall has been done. The steering wheel does not lock, which also indicates that the recall has been done.
Is my only remaining option to have it towed to the dealership for repair? I have an appointment for Wednesday (too busy with Holiday weekend). Also, shoud the dealership "fix" it under the recall? I am not the original owner.
yes the dealer will fix the problem, if the recall has allready been done u shouldnt have this problem .This is what i would do,Let me know if it works because it works when my 00 does this , you will put the key in the ignition , turn the steeringwheel & the key to the right @ the same time . if your steering wheel is locked & the wait 10 sec display is coming across the D I C board , this is how i get the car to become free so its acessabile , also i have never had the recall done on mine . i hope this info works for ya , if it does not work i would take it back to the dealer & let them correct the problem . have a good day
My 2001 was fized twice at the dealer for the service column lock problem. 2 weeks after I bought it I got the DIC message again..... I put the COH CLB on it.
No problems since
I just had my 03 serviced for the same thing. My dealer said it had nothing to do with the recall. Mine is still under warranty so I can't say if they will charge
