OK. I realize that next to cat-back exhaust and air intakes this may be the most posted topic in the forum.
Some factual data please.
What is the stock thermostat rating that delivers the 192 degreee highway temperature? I can't find this data in my service manual.
It's probablly a 180. I have a 160 and mine will run about 174 on the highway. Thats when it's 85 degrees outside. If it is cooler outside it will run 170. In traffic mine will run about 185 but I also have my fans programmed to come on sooner.
Control of your coolant could vary slightly from stat to stat, + - 2 degrees F. But when it is 30 degrees outside, the stat will control how cold your coolant will be ( in other words, it keeps the coolant from getting too cold ) So when its 30/40 degrees outside the stat is doing its job, so on the highway with air flowing through the vanes of the condenser and radiator, your DCI will tell you exactly what the stat is doing. The Low coolant number you see, will never get lower than "That number". Mine runs dead on 190 with the stock stat ( stock in the winter for me) ( facrory fan seetings )whether it's 40 degrees or 10 degrees outside.
The summer is a completly different animal.
My C4 w/160 stat ran at approx. 171 to 173 @ 70 degrees outside on a hwy. cruise (6 speed)
My C5 w/170 stat runs at approx. 181 to 183 @ 70 degrees outside on a hwy. cruise (A4)
