I do a complete fluid change based on my driving style. I drive it like I stole it, so I do a complete (all) fluid change much more often than most.

I always flush and change every 2 years. Gives you an opportunity to look over hoses, belts, radiator core, tanks, etc while you are flushing. My method is overkill but - its my car.

Do not dump your coolant on the driveway, it is toxic. I flush into a large open container and then dispose of it at my local auto parts shop.

For around $100 GM will do the job for you.

I bought my car used and wished the previous owner had changed the coolant sooner. Now I am changing the water pump and stat due to pump seal leak.

Thanks, it's not a mileage issue for me it's time. I have about 6K miles but it's a 2001. Coolant fluid still looks good to the eye. Is there a widget out there that can check for proper coolant properties (good, bad or ugly)?

Don't waste your time checking the "properties", the coolant is still fully functional. The PROBLEM is, its very corrosive and will cause LEAKS if left in too long. If my math is correct yours is 4 to 5 years old. Do you want to do a coolant change or a water pump change?

Going in the shop late this week for an oil change, I'll change the coolant also.
