The new emissions test in Connecticut is just a plug in and scan of your cars computer. If you do not have a code showing, and do not throw a code during the 45 second upload at idle, you will pass. There is no sniffer test.
My tech also checked that I had a good gas cap and had mufflers installed. He did not check for cats, but I do have 2 high flow cats on my car. He said if someone confesses to not having any cats it is an automatic flunk. Also there may be civil penalties.
If you do flunk, you can go to a state authorized repair shop, spend $600 with them and then, pass or fail, you will be given a 2 year waiver and you can just drive it for the 2 years. You will have to repeat the process every 2 years, spend another $600, and get another waiver etc. This might be worth it if you wanted a really big cammed car!
Hope this helps!
i just installed a tsp comp grind 232/234 .598 i/e lift 112lsa in a 99 camaro ss w/ long tube headers, this car will be interesting when going thru the test, what are the #'s on your cam, good to see someone else in CT modding
My cam is very mild, it is a Comp Cam grind at 220/220 duration and .553 lift on a 114 lobe center. It has a mild burble at idle, but no lope. But It will cause my car to throw codes under certain conditions, even though it had professional tuning. Like if I let it idle too long, when cold. So I just drove it about 50 hard miles and got a good heat soak in to it. The tech let me drive it into postition so there were no stalling issues that can also cause a code.
The car put down 401 rwhp at the Vette Doctors. I designed by mods (see signature) to last 100,000 miles with no problems or even tune-ups. I am at 39,000 now, with 15,000 on the modded engine.
