99frc timing chain
I have a 99frc that I road race it has 82,000 miles on it I am thinking about changing out the timing chain. I am wondering if I need to remove the rack and pinion and how difficult of a job is it,also do you recommend a new oil pump while I am in there

Yes, rack and pinion has to come out in order to remove crank pully, and oil pump has to come off to change timing chain, so why not change it too while in there. It's not a very difficult change, you can see how here www.ls1howto.com

Changing the timing chain is a good idea. I had a timing chain part on me last season destroying six valves in the process. If the rules allow it, I suggest using the new heavier duty timing chain, GM part number 88958608, and a timing chain damper, GM part number 88958607 (Timing Chain Damper, LS1, LS6). This is a little plastic piece that bolts in the "v" of the timing chain to reduce the whipping of the chain. New LS1 blocks have pre-drilled bolt holes for this damper, but I'm not sure if the holes are pre-drilled for 99 motors.
